BRIEF DESCRIPTION AGRICULTURE/GHANA ECONOMY Agriculture is one of the economic mainstays of Ghana. And Ghana is one of the English speaking nations in West Africa. The occupation including planting of tree crops like: Cocoa, kola nuts, rubber etc Others crops include: grains, yams, sugar cane, tobacco, cotton, corn, yams, cassava and other root crops; but in general, Cocoa is one of their economic products. Though Cocoa plantation is seen virtually in every part of Ghana but it is more prominent in the forested areas of the country like: Ashanti Region, Central Region, Eastern Region, Brong-Ahafo Region, Western Region, Volta Region and other places where rainfall is above 1,000 millimeters per annum. Cocoa has a long production cycle. It is far longer than many other tropical crops. New hybrid cocoa varieties need about 5 to 6 years to produce, and 10 to 15 years to reach its full bearing potential.
