BRIEF DESCRIPTION BRAZIL BLOCO DA LAMA/ SOUTH AMERICA CARNIVAL/PARADE Bloco da lama is one of the Adrenalin induced Adventures or tourism identity of Paraty in Brazil. It is also called Paraty's Mud Carnival. It is one of the Brazilian most bizarre prehistoric carnivals or spontaneous open-air theatrical expression in Paraty, Brazil. During the parade the folks in rags and swimwear usually cry "ooga ooga ha ha" “uga, uga, rá, rá!” around the city adorned with branches, skulls, lianas etc and slathered in mud from head to toe. The anonymous adrenalin-charged celebration usually takes place on carnival Saturday afternoon. The Mud Block route is through “Praia do Jabaquara” or “Jabaquara´s Beach”. Sometimes, the block is allowed to enter the Historic Center in Paraty. Historically, the carnival is said to have spontaneously developed few days before Carnival in 1986 when two friends who were catching crabs in the muddy Beach of Jabaquara mangroves, about one mile from central Paraty, completely covered themselves with mud to stave off the voracious mosquitoes and dark giant horseflies attack during the hunt. The perceived anonymity that followed, gingered them to enter the city´s Historic Center streets like that; giving birth to another form of parade in Paraty. The impact on the youth of the region is unprecedented. The Mud Block, second year was larger than imagined. Now, about 3,000 people usually partake in the parade every year, despite it is messy nature. The celebration, undoubtedly, is accepted by the youth of the region, Brazilian newspapers, magazines and TV shows.
