INDIAN TRIBES/MARDI GRAS/NEW ORLEANS As part of New Orleans Cultural Celebration, two Indian Tribes meet in the Treme area of New Orleans on this Mardi Gras day video. New Orleans is one of the major United States ports and metropolitan city. It is in the state of Louisiana. Mardi Gras is one of the most popular Carnivals in this City. And To New Orleanians, "Mardi Gras" specifically refers to the Tuesday before Lents. Lent is the highlight of the season in Christian religion, because it is the season of fasting and penitence in preparation for Easter. It usually begins on Ash Wednesday and last 40 days to Easter. This holy days are not only observed by New Orleanians but Roman Catholic, Anglican, and couples of other religions all over the world. In French, litrally, Mardi Gras means "Fat Tuesday", the day according to tradition or ancient custom, meant to parade a fat ox through Paris for the purpose of reminding the people that meat is prohibited during Lent. The Tuesday that Mardi Gras falls on is also known as Shrove Tuesday [Tuesday for confession]. Lent runs from Ash Wednesday thru Easter Sunday. The French people who came to the United States, according to some sources is said to have brought the tradition. Apart from New Orleans, Mardi Gras takes place in other places like: Biloxi in Mississipi, Binche in Belgium, Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, Nice in France, and Viareggio in Italy amongst many other places. Mardi Gras in New Orleans, is characterized by displays of: Costumes, music, parades, picnics, floats, excitements etc and people toss trinkets, especially beads and doubloons, to the crowds from the parade floats. The Mardi Gras colors are purple, green and gold. In New Orleans Mardi Gras moves annually. The celebration date amongst many other things depends on the date of the Easter itself. It can be anywhere in between February 3rd and March 9th. So, whosoever interested in the carnival is expected to check for the date every year before embarking on the journey.
