HYDE PARK - A LONDON TOURIST LANDMARK
Hyde Park is one of the largest parks in central part of London, United Kingdom. It covers more than 360 acres or 142 hectares. It is opened to the public in 1637. It consists of several royal parks that are connected to one another to form one large green lung in the center of the city. The other interconnected parks are: Green Park, Kensington Gardens, and St. James's Park.

Hyde Park is the center for many public and personal events like: celebrations, concerts, swimming, rowing, jogging, picnicking, horse riding etc.
Historically, it is said to be confiscated from the monks of Westminster Abbey in 1536 by King Henry VIII. Before this time, according to the history,it is said to have been used primarily for hunting. But King Charles I opened it to the public in 1637. The current park layout was planned by architect Decimus Burton in 1825.

The park is rich in diverse resources and variety of: flora, fauna, animals etc. Prominent amongst it is endowment is: Serpentine, Rotten Row, Diana Memorial Fountain, Speaker's Corner, Marble Arch, Wellington Arch etc.Serpentine is the large artificial lake that is located at the south end of the park. It extends into the neighboring Kensington Gardens where it becomes Long Water. In its southwest corner is the fountain called Diana Memorial Fountain. It was built in honor of the Princess of Wales.
Rotten Row, a bridle path, lies at the south end of Hyde Park. It is about four miles or 6.4 km long. It is used for: cycling, horse riding, roller blading, jogging etc.

Speaker's Corner which was build as a podium for politics, religions etc is used as needed for various reasons, especially on Sundays. The arches in the park include: Marble Arch, Wellington Arch, Wellington Arch etc
Marble Arch is built as a gate-way to Buckingham Palace. Common wildlife in the park includes: Swans, buzzard, Egyptian geese, Pigeons, wildfowl, bats etc.
