BRIEF DESCRIPTION
YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK/TOURISM
TOURISM:
Tourism is a billion dollars industry. It is fast becoming one of the most popular global leisure activities. In 2010, it was reported that over 940 million international tourists noted worldwide. By definition, tourism is described as per World Tourism Organization as people "traveling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes" while some other school of thoughts sees it as just traveling for either recreational/ leisure or business purposes.
Whatever the reason, Tourism is an important phenomenon now-a -day in the current economy, because it generates a lot of income in form of payment for goods and services available in the area, creation of Job opportunities for the tourist industries, transportation services, entertainment venues, marketing centers etc. amongst many others advantage.
YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK/USA
National Park covers an average area of about 761,268 acres. It spans the eastern portions of Mariposa, Tuolumne and Madera counties in the central eastern portion of California to the western slopes of Sierra Nevada Mountain chain. It is internationally recognized for its spectacular Biological diversities, granite cliffs, waterfalls, clear streams, and Giant Sequoia groves.
It is one of the largest and least fragmented habitat blocks in the Sierra Nevada. It has an elevation range from 2,127 to 13,114 feet and contains five major vegetation zones: lower montane forest, upper montane forest, chaparral/oak woodland, subalpine zone, and alpine. Of California's 7,000 plant species, about 50% occur in the Sierra Nevada and more than 20% within Yosemite. It is also a suitable habitat or documentation for more than 160 rare plants in the park, with rare local geologic formations and unique soils characterizing the restricted ranges many of these plants occupy. Almost 95% of the park is designated wilderness. Geologically, Yosemite area is characterized by remnants of older rock and granitic rocks.
It is reported by some schools of thought, that about 10 million years ago, the Sierra Nevada elevation was uplifted and tilted to form western and eastern slopes and the uplift increased the steepness of stream and river beds, resulting in formation of deep, narrow canyons. The down-slope movement of the ice masses cut and sculpted the U-shaped valley that attracts so many visitors to its scenic vistas today. Allegedly, an average of about 3.7 million people visit Yosemite each year and most of them spend their time in the seven square miles of Yosemite Valley. Who-so-ever is interested in visiting Yosemite is expected to consult the right authority.
