US Veterans Day
Veterans Day , originally known as Armistice Day, is one of the federal holidays in U S. It is observed annually every November 11. And the purpose is to honor military veterans, who have served in the United States Armed Forces and discharged under conditions other than dishonorable.
November 11 coincides with Armistice Day and Remembrance Day. The end of World War I hostilities. Historically, at 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice between Germany and Allied nations was signed. And this put end to the hostilities of World War 1.
Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to celebrates the services of all U.S. military veterans. It is not the same as Memorial day. Memorial day honors those who laid their lives or died in US military services, while, US Armed Forces Day, honors those currently serving in U.S. military.
Veteran day is celebrated all over US. But more remarkable and flamboyant in New York. In New York, it is marked with parades, exhibitions, Performances, drums, millions of spectators etc, along Fifth Avenue at the Borough of Manhattan, in-between 26th & 56th Street. Some also celebrate, however, with Church services at their homes.
