US Veterans Day
Historically, this Holiday begins as an Armistice Day. And Armistice Day is a day at which American reflects on the heroism of those who died on country's services. November 11 was chosen, because at 11th hour of 11th day of 11th month of 1918, an armistice between Germany and the Allied nations was signed. And this put end to the World War 1.
Armistice Day, was firstly commemorated on November 11, 1919. And at the day, President Wilson proclaimed that the celebration should be filled with solemn prides in the heroism of those who lay their lives for the country’s service with gratitude for the victory. History also had it that plans for public meetings, parades and a brief suspension of business activities at 11am was proposes.
In 1926, US Congress officially recognized the end of World War I. And declared commemorating it with Thanksgiving, prayers and displaying of US flag on all US Government buildings. In 1954, the Armistice Day was changed to "Veterans Day" to accommodate and account for all US war veterans.
Veteran day parade, in New York, usually takes place along Fifth Avenue at the Borough of Manhattan in-between 26th & 56th Street.
