BRIEF DESCRIPTION

PAPUA NEW GUINEA/"SING SING" CULTURAL FESTIVAL/PACIFIC
The word “Sing Sing” is from Papua New Guinea tok pidgin language. It means a large: musical gathering, dance party or a celebration with songs and dances; or gathering of villages, ethnicity or tribes for performances in Papua New Guinea.

The festival, in a special way, has been putting together or congregating Oceania cultures, artists, Musicians etc into the picturesque and aural landscapes of Papua guinea since mid 90s. People show their distinct culture, dance, music and what they are known for in the carnival. Villagers paint and decorate themselves for sing-sings. Young girl and father prepare for the festival with special clothes, jewellery, feathers etc, with various characters including: birds, trees, mountain spirits etc.

The carnival also includes: unique state of the art, concert performance, traditional presentations, contemporary arts, choral and string band music etc.

Sing Sing, in a special ways, celebrates the positivity, intricate grass roots life, culture and the journey of the Polynesians along the Oceanic Landscapes. The activities, the audience responses and atmosphere vary throughout the festival. Sometimes, the concert is so exhilarating that the: drumming, wall of sounds with pulsating slit logs, dynamic walls of choral vocals etc, become deafening. And in some special occasions during the performances, you can hear a pin dropping, especially, when the solitary bamboo flute or solo traditional vocals gently floats across the audience accompanied by the sound of insects.

In 2007 Sing Sing introduces Moab String band from Raluana village, Rabaul. The performances are so wonderful that two bars of string band- music will probably guarantee audience smiles.
